Another mind-blowing week for 'AndOn and I'm honestly starting think we're making it all up. Ray and I were but cousins with a dream (embrace the cheesy) a few short months ago, and now we have a company that has been overwhelmed with good news.
With IYAF secured for July, we knew we had plenty of work to do to create a show that would knock Kingston's socks off -- and that was challenge enough. Since then, however, we've somehow (and not entirely on purpose) managed to patch together a small-scale London tour of the show that still in the making!
Last week we received a 'pinch yourself' email for the Battersea Arts Centre, telling us that we had a slot in their 2013 Scratch Festival; the perfect opportunity to let a few folk with a critical eye glimpse a little of Bits & Box, and let us know what's Good, Bad and downright Ugly. This is in May. It IS May. *Gulp*
So we've brought our deadline forward by two months and now have even less time to create, imagine and wow. At least the BAC are embracing the work-in-progress... just in case!
'And the madness continued that very same week. This time with the Barking Broadway theatre, who were on the hunt for inventive new shows for their autumn season. We somehow came away from that meeting with a potential week of workshops, performances for the local community, and a short run in their 350 seater auditorium. What's happening right now?
As I say, I'm blown away by the positive response we've had from so many industry professionals, and amazed to look back over four months and see such rapid progress of a company we thought would travel as far in four years. I cannot thank enough anyone and everyone who has taken the time to speak to us and share a little wisdom -- you know who you are, but probably not how much you've helped. As I've said before, listening and learning is everything in this business, and we've tried our utmost to do both.
So now we push on and keep hunting for that precious inspiration. Drawing on our invaluable imaginations. 'And honouring (<<sneaky one there) the importance of a wealth of wisdom, and the sweat of hard work.
